The Sell Out

The Sell Out is an accomplished, high-quality, high-octane rock band covering the music of The Who, exclusively.

While the band are fine with the term “tribute,” they are wary of being seen as impersonators of The Who. This band does not wear wigs or costumes, and its members don’t assume the accents of their heroes The Who, nor do they copy note for note. This is a band of Who fans - they play their favourite music, with passion and energy, true to the spirit and sound of The Who while retaining a genuinely live, spontaneous edge, which they feel makes for a more unique, one-off occasion for each and every audience.

Some four and a half years in existence at time of writing, the band has gone down a storm at a variety of occasions, including major Mod events such as Dunoon Revival Weekender, while also taking in everything from Paisley Food Festival to small community pubs.

The Who, of course, have a substantial back catalogue, and The Sell Out have exploited this to the full, with a repertoire that includes every era ofThe Who’s career, from the mid-60s right up to their most recently recorded material. This means there’s something for everyone and sets can be tailored to the audience or event.

The band performs as a 4 piece consisting of guitar, bass, drums and vocals, occasionally augmented by digital backing tracks as per The Who’s own records and performances (e.g. Baba O’Riley, Won’t Get Fooled Again). 

Audiences are often heard to comment “I didn’t realise I knew so many Who songs,” or similar, and the band take great pleasure in reminding music fans just how many classic records The Who made, as well, of course, as converting younger or less familiar fans to The Who’s towering body of work. There is plenty for audiences to dance and singalong to at a Sell Out gig!
