About this Act
Outi Smith is an accomplished Finnish singer and pianist now based in Scotland. She began her musical journey as a classical pianist, but after exploring various genres from folk to rock and pop, her heart found a home in jazz. For her the beauty of jazz is in the variety, interpretation and constant reinvention of the story being told and she is passionate about the improvisational elements of jazz. Through her studies and over years of performing in different groups and settings around the UK and overseas, Outi has developed her own ethereal yet quirky vocal style. As a songwriter and arranger she draws on her classical and jazz experience while interweaving a myriad of further influences.
As a live performer Outi aspires to being mindful to the mood and energy of her audience and she'll fine-tune her performance according to the occasion. No two shows are ever the same.
Her jazz duo with Nico Gaul, a highly regarded guitarist, is gaining attention in the Scottish jazz scene and they are wowing audiences with their stylish renditions of jazz and blues classics.
As a piano singer Outi performs her favourite jazz standards as well as an eclectic selection of popular songs.
