To mark the start of the Edinburgh Festivals this month, here’s a few home-grown recent additions.

To celebrate the Scottish capital doubling its population in August for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (among the other festivals) we though we’d showcase a few Edinburgh based wedding and function acts. These are all recent additions to the cause, signing on in the last month or so and if you are or know someone who’d like to sign up, then please go here on the Freak Music site.

Matt Gloss & the Emulsions (above) are a professional function band based across central Scotland. With over 6 years experience on the wedding circuit already, and a massive repertoire of songs, The Emulsions offer energetic live shows and musical competency in spades. No matter what or where your function or wedding is, Matt Gloss & the Emulsions will provide from start to finish, the soundtrack to an amazing night! The band line-up consists of lead male vocals, guitar, keyboard, bass and drums, with all of the band also providing backing vocals. The Emulsions will provide everything you need for your event to run as smoothly as possible. The band can also provide interlude music if it’s required.

The Jig Show (right) are a Rock n’ Roll ceilidh and party band that bring their firebrand version of Ceilidh to the fore. They are led by their supercharged frontman on the bow Peter Menzies and promise to deliver a ceilidh set that will not be soon forgotten. The Jig Show have a unique and high octane performance that is set to wow and awe event guests. Their flexibility and set options means they are suitable for a whole host of events, from wedding and corporate functions to festivals and private parties. They are loud, rambunctious with endless amounts of fun, and bring their contagious high spirits to every event.

Big Tuna

Edinburgh-based Big Tuna (left) is a four-man, rock ‘n’ rolling, good-time-having live Scottish Wedding Band. Big Tuna specialise in weddings, parties, club events and all other types of live rock music performances. They play a broad repertoire featuring the music of the world’s greatest rock artists, covering the 1950s right up to modern day acts. Since forming in 2003, Big Tuna has established itself as one of Scotland’s top live wedding bands and rock cover acts.

dominance and class on their instruments and covers that are re-worked with zest and magic like no other, you’ll be sure to be dancing for the entire night. High fade has played over 200 shows in the last year working with some of Scotlands biggest venues to put on a high energy funk show, they have supported the likes of Hot Dub Time Machine at Fly Open Air festival and have worked with many industry professionals in session work or live. They are critically acclaimed to be one of the tightest rhythm sections in Scotland fronted by guitar and vocals with rare grooves and bass lines that make you want to move. Available as a 3-piece or 6-piece they can cater to any event or gig. They have a large corporate portfolio working with Tudor watches and various tech companies many times.

Fully Funktional are a 4 piece band consisting of vocals, guitar, bass and drums. They started rehearsing in April 2019 with an aim to re-imagine classic pop songs with a new funk twist. The bass player, guitar player and drummer are primarily jazz musicians and the singer is trained both in opera and musical theatre. All four band members are from the University of Edinburgh and all members work professionally in their respective fields individually. The band are currently building a set list including everything from Adele to Fleetwood Mac but with a unique style. They are young, fun and very fresh.
