The South west of England wedding band industry is in rude health at present and here’s a small selection of some older and newer acts:
The 1st Call Singing Waiters have been established for over five years. Dressed the same as the venue’s staff these seasoned professionals help serve the dessert course so your guests believe them to be the real deal. On cue, to the complete surprise to your guests they suddenly burst into song! Simple but effective. They perform a very mixed musical party set with something for everyone. For example a typical set would include a couple of ratpack/swing numbers and classic tracks from popular artistes such as Abba, Tina Turner, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, The Beatles, the recently deceased Andy Williams, Scissor Sisters, Tony Christie and sometimes a couple of show songs.
Boasting a strong 7-piece line-up, Jessica and the Rabbits (below) are a function band that hail from the South-West. The Band is fronted by the wonderful Jessica who, along with the tight as a drum band behind her, ensures the function is a swinging success. Playing tunes by James Brown through to Dusty Springfield and Otis, they will provide a night that’ll be soaked in the sounds of true R&B!
The Alfie Kingston Duo (above) are an acoustic covers act with years of experience on the wedding, corporate and function circuit in the South West and further afield. The duo are impressing audiences across the country with their unique take on rock and pop classics such as The Cure’s ‘Friday I’m In Love’ or ‘Spirit In The Sky’. Their quality acoustic set also takes in 80s pop-rock like Michael Jackson’s ‘Leave Me Alone’ and Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’, as well recent alt-rock hits like The Killer’s ‘Human’, complemented by selections of a more laid-back vibe including faithful renditions of Beatles and Beach Boys standards.
