The band are based across Tyneside, Co Durham and North Yorkshire and play across the UK between Scotland and Southern England.
The name and content of the show changes from year to year, and the set is tailored for the tasted of individual gigs, but essentially the music is joyful, up-tempo Acoustic Gypsy swing played on Violin, Guitar and Double Bass, loosely based on the 1930’s Parisian Music of Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. This year’s show is The Gypsy Jazz Experience, from early next year they will be touring Jigs and Djangos, a fusion of gypsy swing and traditional Irish/Scottish music. Both Simon and Andy sing, so all shows are a mix of instrumental and song.
The Andy Lawrenson play Festivals, Jazz Clubs, Village Halls, smaller theatres and occasionally pubs, and have a good following in the form of an extensive mailing list and good Facebook presence. ticket sales are usually good and audiences enjoy the performance - here are some comments from recent shows:
Another great night at the Kilburn Institute. The Andy Lawrenson Trio gave it their all to a packed house. The event was billed as “Le Cafe Parisian ” and lived up to its name. The music was a mash up of Stephan Grappelli and Django Reinhardt meets Skiffle and Gypsy Jazz with a little influence from Fado.
The were the perfect antidote to a cold January Evening. Brilliant musicians delivering an edgy, uptempo, warm, funny and audience pleasing show."
“You are so entertaining! Not only are you all fantastic musicians, you really put on a show and work with the audience!, good to see so many people here for you” (Spring Bank Arts Centre, June 2017)
