The band is based in Edinburgh and perform throughout the UK and are willing to travel anywhere for events.
Ali Affleck's new band, The Copper Cats perform a traditional New Orleans Blues repertoire with songs associated with the great Ma Rainey, Alberta Hunter and Merline Johnson and with lots of wildly exciting instrumentals thrown into the mix too. The band are fronted by current recipient of the Scottish Jazz Federation's Jazz Vocalist of the Year award, Ali Affleck and comprising of some of Edinburgh's finest and most respected musicians.
After 16 years living in the USA, Ali has amassed an enviable musical collection rare old Southern Jazz and Blues and these songs are delivered with prowess and passion. Pulsatingly rhythmic, full of drive and passion, The Copper Cats offer up an exciting, hearty and delicious performance and where-ever they are, a floor-filling performance always results!
The Copper Cats are in high demand and are invited to perform at all the hottest Swing dances and Jazz Festivals ( and the BBC and STV!) and their high energy shows invariably attract large audiences and Swing Dancers. Unpretentious, vivacious , people pleasing and authentic - The Copper Cats will ensure your event is memorable!
Ali Affleck was a clear winner as best jazz vocalist in the Scottish Jazz Awards for one prime reason – she positively brims with vocal talent! She has a vocal styling of a young Billie Holliday with shades of June Christy and she constantly draws comparisons to the Jazz divas from the halcyon days of the 20s and 30s when style and elegance mattered as much as the music. Ali loves to share the stage and revels in the artistry of her band,...
"While Affleck’s vocals were mesmerising, this was far from a solo show, Her voice was deep and smooth and I wanted to just wrap myself up in it"
San Diego Union Tribune
“I can think of no other young singer of Scottish Jazz who can deliver this kind of material with such authenticity and so swingingly as Alison- hence her award.”
“Ali sings with the same kind of élan and swing that is very evident in the recordings of a certain Billie Holiday. Now this is high praise indeed but I can assure you that it is entirely accurate.”
Stephen Duffy- BBC Jazzhouse
"Her vocals take you to a new place- somewhere between New Orleans and Paris!"
