Some excellent vintage wedding band options for hire in the UK

The Banjo Lounge
The Banjo Lounge

One of the most popular theme for weddings in the last few years has been the retro and vintage market. This can take the form of a tipi in a field with hay bales for seats or a Great Gatsby type affair at an old stately home, swimming pool optional. The UK has a superb variety of vintage wedding acts and here’s a few we can highly recommend.

Edinburgh based bluegrass band The Banjo Lounge (above) do innovative funky bluegrass and swing mash-up versions of songs to suit all ages from Louis Prima’s ‘Just a Gigolo’, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Dont Stop Til You Get Enough’ to Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and Dizzee Rascal / Calvin Harris’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’. Also thrown in there are a bunch of other classics they have tinkered with to make their own including New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’, a blistering version of Blur’s ‘Song 2’ and Punjabi MC’s Knightrider re-mix of ‘Mundian to Bach Ke’.

Dat Swing Thing (bottom) are a London based modern jazz act made up of 4 excellent musicians. They offer a line-up of double bass, drums, electric guitar and female vocals and can tailor sets to suit your needs. They are versatile enough to be able to play chilled out background music or upbeat music to keep your guests dancing from the beginning to the end of their sets. They can do a bespoke arrangement of your favourite song, whether it’s a first dance or a special song for your birthday. The band is made up of professional musicians who have played at the top venues around the UK such as Ronnie Scott’s, The Forum, The Jazz Café and with some of the world’s leading musicians.

Manchester based five piece the Riviera (right) are an outstanding group of professional musicians who create a vibrant live act, putting a contemporary twist on the classic 1930’s gypsy jazz sound. Whether entertaining clients in a busy city bar or creating a beautiful mellow ambience for an early evening event, The Riviera never fails to capture an audience.

The Honey Moons

Band member’s CVs are pretty impressive too unsurprisingly, and they have worked with musicians such at Justin Timberlake, Mark Ronson, 50cent, Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson, and toured the UK with some of the country’s biggest bands, playing events such as the O2 wireless weekend and venues such as The Clapham Grand and Edinburgh’s Dirty Martini and Botanic Gardens. Their International performances include gigs in New York, Asia, and a recent string of gigs in Europe.

Edinburgh based rock, pop and ceilidh act The Honey Moons (above left) pride themselves on their high-energy performances that get partygoers up on the dance floor and keep them there!

With an extensive musical repertoire from the 1950s through to modern day floor fillers this band caters for every taste and do it in style. The Honey Moons are the perfect party band for both weddings and corporate events and depending on the line-up you can have a great ceilidh set too.
