Although the England and Wales market is catching up speedily, our main bread and butter, and by extension our band’s too, is the Scottish market, here’s a selection of some old faithful live wedding bands and acts for hire in Scotland through Freak Music.

Andy Lucas (above) is a pianist and singer based in Scotland, and available for gigs/weddings/functions or session work anywhere in the UK. He has worked as a professional musician for over 10 years, and is now one of the most in demand piano-vocalists in the country. From piano lessons with an eccentric old teacher at the age of 6, to years spent honing his skills in piano bars and restaurants and stages across the UK and Europe, he has developed a style that is unique and popular. He is resident pianist in The Corinthian Club (Glasgow), The Living Room (Edinburgh and Glasgow) Browns Bar and Brasserie (Glasgow) and also has played in The Balmoral Hotel (Edinburgh), Dirty Martini in LeMonde – Edinburgh, The Granary in Leith, Fingers Piano Bar in Edinburgh, The Blue Dog, Urban Bar and Brasserie. He regularly plays for wedding ceremonies/drinks receptions across Scotland.

Blu Velvet play and sing classic jazz and modern songs to a high quality. They delve into the great American Songbook and emerge with tasteful modern arrangements; they cherry-pick the best modern songs from the great singers such as Ella, Nina Simone, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, Eva Cassidy, Caro Emerald, Adele, and Edi Reader. They also perform traditional and contemporary jazz songs, as well as delightful acoustic versions of Burns, Scottish and other genres as requested. The band features Carol Stirrat on vocals – her voice has delighted audiences with her jazzy/bluesy style and interpretations. The musical arrangements behind her come from Sandy Rosie (keyboard / guitar), supported by Scotland’s top-flight experienced musicians (double bass, guitar, sax,and drums as required). Blu Velvet adopt a professional approach to their music – they come equipped with good quality instruments and amplification. They supply PA and lighting to suit most venues and they know how to set up quickly and unobtrusively, and will adapt to the needs of the audience and client. They operate to professional standards in all their business dealings.

The Banjo Lounge  (below) do innovative funky bluegrass and swing mash-up versions of songs to suit all ages from Louis Prima’s ‘Just a Gigolo’, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Dont Stop Til You Get Enough’ to Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and Dizzee Rascal / Calvin Harris’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’. Also thrown in there are a bunch of other classics they have tinkered with to make their own including New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’, a blistering version of Blur’s ‘Song 2’ and Punjabi MC’s Knightrider re-mix of ‘Mundian to Bach Ke’. With a lineup of banjo, guitar, double bass, drums and 3 part harmonies, over the last few years private clients and festival-goers alike have been dancing to their brand new brand of acoustic mash-ups!
