We thought London would be a tough nut to crack when we started recruiting UK wide last year but nothing could be further from the truth and we have a pretty decent selection of classical music acts for hire for weddings in London through Freak Music.

Offering an imaginative alternative to the popular electric string quartet format, Flight are a classical-crossover act that uses amplified flutes and backing track. This exciting, vibrant and versatile ensemble can provide music for any occasion, from gentle background ambience to a dynamic fully choreographed set complete with virtuosic performances and visual effects. Classically trained at the Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, performers are award winning instrumentalists and have recorded and performed with Katherine Jenkins, Blake, Jethro Tull, Sir James Galway, Nigel Kennedy, Jonathan Ansell (G4) and Katie Melua.

As Britain’s first and foremost ‘crossover’ string quartet, Status Cymbal (above) is the String Quartet with its own distinctive style. As well as playing the works of the great composers for the medium, it has its own unique library of sparkling and witty arrangements of all kinds of popular music from Opera through Swing and Jazz to the great Musicals, Pop hits and Rock classics. The idea of this most traditional classical line-up playing familiar modern tunes intrigues and delights audiences of all ages and walks of life. As a result, the schedule now embraces concerts, all kinds of functions both corporate and private.

It was while growing up in Stroud, Gloucestershire, that Tim Gill (below right) first began his classical training in both viola and violin. He progressed quickly, performing Bach’s Double Violin Concerto by age 12 and later going on to play with the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra as a teenager. Academic study provided the next stepping-stone in Tim’s musical progression, when he sought and achieved a BA Honours degree in Music at Oxford Brookes University. It was here that Tim was presented with a broad selection of new musical opportunities that he eagerly met, allowing him to greatly expand and develop his repertoire and playing styles.

Edward Mirza is a genuine Operatic tenor soloist, and a romantic soloist, performing evocative numbers from the High Opera Tradition – as well as lead roles in Operatic productions. He performs a wide variety of repertoire from well-known Italian Love Songs (the most famous example is O Sole Mio – well known as the basis for the ‘Just One Cornetto’ advertisement), or ‘Neapolitan Songs,’ in which Edward Mirza is a specialist. He also performs well known love ballads in a highly romantic style, such as Love Story, and also lighter pop-ballad repertoire. Of course on request, or at the audience’s behest, well known operatic arias are at their disposal. Edward Mirza is available with an accompanist or as very compact and portable with a discreet professional P.A. set, and a set of professional backing tracks.
