Defyingravity
Defyingravity

Defyingravity are a modern wedding band capable of performing in any venue from intimate venues to arenas. They are arguably the biggest sounding little band around – certainly in Scotland if not the UK. They are able to perform a wide range of songs from most eras whilst injecting their own unique twist to the music. This makes them stand out as market leaders in an already over-crowded cover band scene. Defyingravity’s core unit consists of 3 highly accomplished musicians who are renowned in the scene as session / dep players themselves. With the addition of up to 3 female singers, the band becomes a complete musical and vocal tour de force on par with many established top 40 acts – able to handle big show tunes as well as the latest pop, rock and even EDM genres and even a couple of ceilidh numbers if required.

Sophia Boryslawska (right) is a Cheshire based solo saxophonist who specialises in free styling with DJs and bands and has performed up and down the UK as well as across Europe and the Far East. She has been in high demand in the entertainment sector since graduating from the prestigious LIPA, in 2009, where she was awarded the Victor Greenberg Liverpool Jazz Award. She has a wide repertoire to call on taking in acts such as Avicii, Katy Perry, Daft Punk and Marvin Gaye and can provide subtle lounge ‘Ibiza style’ chillout lounge background music at drinks receptions, or mingling with guests on the dance floor whilst playing funky house tracks.

The Retrophones (bottom) are a full on funk wedding band, specialising in 1970’s classics. They formed in 2011 when they played at the Rowchester Music Festival and they play to enthusiastic audiences at clubs and private parties in and around Edinburgh and the Borders and, more recently in 2015 and 2016, at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Music Festival and they have been honoured to have been joined on occasion by two of Scotland’s top jazz artists. They play as a full on nine piece act and have in their arsenal a superb array of classics of the genre from such musical funk luminaries as Chic, KC and the Sunshine, James Brown and the Commodores and even play their own funky versions of songs such as Happy and Get Lucky. The band can alternate between disco diva dance of Chic and Sister Sledge to full on set piece James Brown numbers and heavy duty funk as played by Kool and the Gang and the Commodores.
