As you know, this year is a leap year, which means traditionally the girlies can propose marriage to the boys. The legend goes that this tradition dates back to 5th Century Ireland but this is not widely believed as it had not been attested before the 19th century.
A few weeks ago we took a call from Carolina Perez who had planned to do exactly this to her boyfriend of 15 years, Simon Whittle, in their favourite Mexican restaurant, Pancho Villas in Glasgow. She got in touch with us to book our Glasgow based Mariachi band, Rapido Mariachi to serenade him as she popped the question. Actually she didn’t exactly pop the question in the conventional sense at all, she used the power of cupcakes…
Allan from the band told us “it was good fun, we had to hide downstairs and appeared at 8.30, sang a song, question popped, sang another song with a wee tear in our eyes.” Absolutely brilliant.
And, he said yes*.
