Blu Velvet is based in Edinburgh but also covers Scotland and the North of England.
Blu Velvet perform traditional and modern Jazz, Blues and Americana songs to a very high quality. They delve into the Great American Songbook and emerge with tasteful and lively modern arrangements; they cherry-pick the best songs from the greatest singers and songwriters such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Caro Emerald, Adele, Cole Porter, Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Van Morrison, Fats Domino, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Diane Birch and Emeli Sande.They also perform a selection of ceilidh music and can do delightful acoustic versions of Burns and other genres as appropriate.
The band is fronted by Carol Stirrat on vocals - her voice has delighted audiences with her Jazzy, Bluesy style and interpretations. Lively musical arrangements come from Piano/Keys, and the Blu Velvet 'swing' from Bass and Drums. The band also features the sublime Saxophone notes of ex BBC top-drawer Sax/Clarinet player, Kenny Thomson. The band's wide experience of live playing, recording, broadcasting, and teaching delivers high quality music to complement Carol's acclaimed vocals.
Blu Velvet has a professional approach to its music and business dealings. They come equipped with good quality instruments, amplification and supply PA and lighting to suit most venues, setting up in plenty of time and unobtrusively. You can also be assured that Blue Velvet will adapt to the needs of the client and their audience.
The band perform perform as a duo, trio, quartet or quintet catering for weddings, parties, large corporate functions, restaurants, events or short appearances. Acoustic sets are available for listening audiences and the full Swing band for dancing and parties.
In June 2018, Blu Velvet expanded their booking options and now offer "From Ella to Emeli...through the decades" which is a talk and musical performance combined into one. A couple of songs from each decade, starting with the 1920s working their way through to present day. All are introduced individually using interesting facts then performed.
