The Viennese Ensemble plays popular European music from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Much of their repertoire is by composers who were (and sometimes still are) well known: Brahms, Strauss, Elgar, Mendelssohn and many others.
The music they play is from before the time of affordable and easily available recordings. Like the vocal standards of the mid-twentieth century, it was reinterpreted, rearranged and performed by generations of musicians in private homes, for dances, for festivals and celebrations, and in music halls and cafes. It was vibrant and alive and it echoed through gas-lit streets throughout Europe and Britain.
The Viennese Ensemble welcomes bookings at public and private events and celebrations. They have played at church concert series, at hotels, at community events, at George Square, Princes Square, at the Burrell Collection, and of course at weddings and other celebrations.
The Viennese Ensemble can choose their own playlist according to the type of event, or you can select pieces from their live music archive on bandcamp or from their full repertoire list, available upon request.
Where are they based?
The Viennese Ensemble is based on the south side of Glasgow.
