About
Modhan (AKA Allaidh Modhan) are a fresh talent from the exciting modern Celtic music scene in the UK. Heavily influenced by the traditional music of Scotland, Modhan express their extensive range of diverse influences throughout their compositions. Elements of jazz, funk & rock all feature, and sit alongside African grooves and European melodies. The result is a refreshingly unique and contemporary sound.
The band has been performing at ceilidhs, weddings, corporate functions and parties since 2002. Since that time they have built up an enviable reputation and enjoy an extremely full calendar, often filled months in advance. They can play for and call all of your favourite dances, and can augment any ceilidh with several original dances of their own composition. In addition to performing at ceilidhs and functions, Modhan regularly perform their original music at concerts, gigs and sessions in Edinburgh, Glasgow and further afield. They travel extensively throughout the country and will accept enquiries from all over the UK. Members of the current line-up regularly tour all over the World with a variety of international acts, with recent tour destinations including Australia, New Zealand, North America, and Continental Europe.
History
Modhan first got together as part of a school music project in Aberdeenshire. Deciding that they enjoyed playing music together, the newly formed band started playing for ceilidhs in their local area, and began to compose and arrange music to add to their repertoire. Following a mass migration to Edinburgh and Glasgow for University studies, the band set up base in Edinburgh and became favourites on the local scene, playing for all manner of functions and events in some of the most prestigious locations and venues in the country. Highlights and events of note have included playing for the EU Commissioner of Fisheries in Brussels, ceilidhs in the Sultanate of Oman, making over 1000 people dance at functions in Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, and being involved in new initiatives for charity fundraising ‘Oxjam’ events throughout Scotland.
Modhan recorded an album in 2006, entitled ‘The Astonishing Flying Ring’, largely made up of original tunes and sets. They followed this in 2009 with an EP entitled ‘Sons of Ugly’, featuring all original compositions and showcasing the bands distinctive musical direction. The band continue to experiment with new music and influences and look forward to recording a follow-up album in 2011.
Modhan are available for corporate functions, weddings, civil partnerships and other types of events. They can provide ceilidh music, background music, concert music and pop covers on request, along with a high spec PA and stage lighting system to suit all venues.

The band are based in Edinburgh but regularly play throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
