About
The Roll Ups - Rhythm & Roll Band. The name says it all. Tight rhythm and blues from the 50's, Rock n Roll, Motown classics, driving 70's rock right through to modern covers. Always an upbeat feel and tight groove, The Roll Ups versions of well known covers and also some more discerning classics feature some great virtuosity from the 4 players. A mixture of old and young creates an exiting blend of youth and experience.
Farky : Lead vocal and bluesharp :
Taught by his grandmother, Farky has been playing harp for many a year now
and started playing in the pubs and clubs at the age of 17. A personable front man and entertainer, he is (just) the elder statesman of the band.
Davy : Rhythm / Lead Guitar / vocals:
Played in pubs and clubs from the age of 15 in the same band as Farky. Returned to playing again with a country-rock band after a number of years pursuing other activities, Davy returns to the music that first inspired him to pick up a guitar in the first place. The other elder statesman in the band.
Stuart : Bass Guitar / vocals:
Mr Rhythm himself . Youngest member of the band but with a wealth of gigging experience with successful Glasgow bands. Stuart has supported many 'name' bands in his career and the live experience ensures a rock steady rhythm section.
LJ : Drums:
Mr Roll himself : The Roll Ups flamboyant drummer and powerhouse of the driving beat. LJ has played the circuit also for many years and has a wealth of practical gig experience. As the other younger member of the band, LJ brings an energy with him that rubs off on all around.
Musical styles that influences the band and the music it plays comes from a wide timescale, but always has the beat to drive it. Influences come from rock n roll, rhythm and blues, Motown, rock and modern derivatives of all of these. There are also subtle hints of swing and jazz in their interpretations, it is almost impossible not to tap your foot even when you are not dancing.
Where are they based?
The band are based in Glasgow but regularly play across Scotland and the rest of the UK
