About

The Drop, are a 9-piece roots-rock-reggae outfit based in and around London. They are part of the small but significant front-line of British new-wave reggae bands. They are pushing with a sincere awareness for the British reggae revival that has been a long time coming.

They are a challenge to the prevailing trends, an alternative to the alternative, and the songs are musically undeniable!

"your music deserves to be heard", "Follow them" - David Rodigan

"the best thing to come out of Reading since Huntly and Palmer's biscuits" - DJ Derek.

Dandelion joined the band as an established reggae artist himself. His solo projects had him sing on several well known dub-step releases, most notably CCTV, which was released on the Hyperdub label and was played by Mary Ann Hobbs and Giles Peterson on Radio 1. He has found a home in The Drop with fellow songwriters and musicians, all working together to create something new.

They effortlessly walk the syncopated path laid by generations before. The arrangements are meticulous, leaving the booming dub bass plenty of air to vibrate and never suffocating the thoughtful lyrics of vocalist Dandelion. They have quickly built a reputation for infectious melodies and an authentic heavy roots sound laced with a refreshingly eclectic originality.

The band have already stormed the UK festival circuit with over 20 appearances in the last 2 years at Sunrise, Beach Break Live, Green Man, Electric Picnic, Secret Garden Party and Boomtown Fair to name a few. This along with numerous high caliber support slots...

The Drop have shared the stage with acts such as:

Toots and the Maytals

Lee 'Scratch' Perry

David Rodigan

Don Letts

Dreadzone

Zion Train

Dub Pistols

DJ Derek

Plus more recently The Drop have had success with radio coverage and plays on Kiss FM |(Rodigan), BBC Radio 1 (Giles Peterson & Rodigan) and BBC Radio London (Gary Crowley)

All this after having their first gig in spring 2009, and with no backing. Their material, enthusiasm and evident enjoyment of playing live has taken them this far in such a short time.

Where are they based?

The Drop are based in and around London, and have been gigging nationally all over the country, including Ireland, Wales and Scotland, as well as most of England.
