Music Description: A Ceilidh & Covers band with a contemporary take
Price Range: from £800 to £1800
Allaidh Modhan are a four-piece Celtic band who can perform ceilidh music to dance or listen to all night. With sharp melodies coming from whistle and mandolin accompanied by acoustic guitar and percussion, most of Allaidh Modhan's material is completely original, in a traditional style. With an experienced dance caller, and the additional ability to perform a set of 60's/70's covers, Allaidh Modhan are capable of providing music for a large variety of events.
The band have been playing at Ceilidhs, Weddings and Parties for the last 6 years and have carved out their distinct Celtic sound in the process. Their fusing of traditional and original tunes from Fiddle, Whistle and Mandolin with a back-line of Guitar, Bass and Drums has produced a tight, refreshing Sound described as 'Funked-up Folk Rock'.
Allaidh Modhan have until now been performing as a 6-piece playing predominantly at weddings, birthday parties and corporate events all over the Country. In addition, Allaidh Modhan have appeared at Band Nights in Edinburgh and Glasgow, including recent fundraisers for OxJam Music Festival and Celtic Connections Music Festival in Glasgow. Recent other commitments have resulted in fiddler Fraser McNiven and bassist Jodie Bremaneson being unable to fulfill as many dates as they would enjoy, and therefore Allaidh Modhan are now primarily available as a 4-piece.
Included in this line-up is Graham Mcleod, who fronts the band on guitar and as dance caller. Tunes are provided by Mark Aspden on whistles and Chris Higgins on mandolin while Andy Mcleod completes the compact line up on percussion. This new sound is still in the same vein as the 6-piece predecessor, with the constant focus of neither to lose sight of, nor become enveloped in the traditional roots that inspired the band to begin performing the music they love in the first place.
The band are based in Edinburgh but regularly play throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
