Esther Swift, harp and David Douglas, voice are two Scottish musicians at the beginning of their musical careers. They are both highly sought after performers in their own right with a depth of performance experience. Esther enjoys a varied career with orchestras and as a recitalist and composer. David is an up and coming singer with a breadth of experience performing in operas, oratorios and as a recitalist. Together Esther and David are Alchemy.
Alchemy is a fresh and exciting Voice and Harp duo. Their music and performances have been described as “something extremely special”. Their fusion of classical and traditional music makes them versatile and unique. They have been fortunate in having several works composed specifically for them, including a new song cycle, setting several of the poems of Robert Burns, by the composer Elfyn Jones and a new version of “My Love is like a Red, Red Rose” by Toby Hunt. In addition to this, the pair continue to set and arrange their own versions of traditional and classical songs. Performance highlights include a recital- A Scottish Journey, in the studio theatre of the Royal Northern College of Music, the premiere of three new settings of the poetry of Robert Burns in the Concert Hall of the RNCM, recital in the Whitworth Art Gallery and a live performance tour of Manchester radio stations, including ArtsBeatFM. Future engagements include a performance for Oxjam Birmingham, recitals in Gallery Oldham and the CBSO centre and a tour of the west of Scotland.
