About

Alan has been playing and studying the classical guitar for over 30 years and performs classical and contemporary guitar music including popular film themes for intimate venues and events. The unobtrusive nature of his act – solo classical guitar (with small amplifier/speaker where required) makes him Ideal for a variety of intimate occasions such as drinks receptions, dinner/garden parties and small exhibitions.

Alan performs intimate classical and contemporary music from across the world. His varied repertoire includes pieces from Spain, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Ireland, Cuba, the USA and the UK. He plays music by composers such as JS Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Domenico Scarlatti, John Barry, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Henry Mancini.

Over the years, Alan has developed a number of music projects and has played and recorded various styles of guitar including blues and rock as part of function/instrumental groups. He has also written and performed his own compositions and performed at a number of venues (for example at a recent Wedding at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh, at The Meadows Festival and Princes Street Gardens Main Stage and at garden/dinner parties in Edinburgh/East Lothian).

He is a member of the European Guitar Teachers Association (EGTA) UK, Alan has taught various styles of guitar over the last 10 years including adult learners at Leith Academy in Edinburgh.

Alan’s set list is well balanced and includes a number of well known pieces together with contemporary works including arrangements of popular film themes such as Get Carter, teh Wind beneath my wings, Dances with Wolves and Local Hero.

Alan feels that these well known themes translate very well to the classical guitar and can be a refreshing and interesting addition to a classical guitar performance and event. If required an arrangement for a specific song/piece of music that you would like to be played at your event.

Alan’s range of classical and contemporary guitar works will provide a perfect musical backdrop to any special occasion/event.
