The Black Star Steel Band is a 7 piece Glasgow based steel band. The name is derived from the black star in the middle of the tricolour flag of Ghana as all founding members were Ghanaian. The current members originated from a steel band formed with the aid of Glasgow City Council in 1990 during the year of culture celebrations. They have extended the format of the traditional steel band by adding saxophone to the usual selection of steel pans and percussion and play an energetic mix which takes in Calypso, Samba, Soca, Reggae and African styles, as well as Pop and Jazz. In addition to regular gigs around Scotland involving weddings, community galas, Caribbean nights and birthday parties, they have supported Rod Stewart at Hampden, taken part in the Glasgow International Jazz Festival and had a guest appearance on Balamory, as well as partaking in the Children’s Classic Concert at the Royal Concert Hall Glasgow.

Domino Gumbo
Domino Gumbo

Simply Unique. There’s not another band in the UK doing what Domino Gumbo (above) do. They take their musical influences from New Orleans and the surrounding bayous of Louisiana and bring them all together in their own blend of sounds. Domino – All of the music has a little Fats Domino running through it. Piano and N’Awlins style saxes to the fore. Gumbo – all the other influences and music style that make up this band. Swampy accordion, the rhythm of the rub-board, Cajun and Zydeco music. New Orleans is ‘Party City’ so make Domino Gumbo your ‘Party Band’. They are perfect for Mardi Gras, Fais Do-do, Cajun Ceilidh, Swing/Jive Dance, any party, celebration or dance.

The Galloway Consort was formed in 1985 from a group of musicians who fell under the influence of David Munrow and his spirited revival of 15th-17th music. The group provides costumed entertainment of renaissance music from the courts of Europe on appropriate instruments – viols, recorders, early reed instruments, renaissance guitar, lute and all manner of percussion. A singer may also be added if required. The group also offers educational programs for all ages on instruments of the renaissance.
