The Banjo Lounge

Not everyone wants Chasing Cars and Mustang Sally sand at their wedding, here’s some slightly off the wall options for live wedding acts and bands for hire through Freak Music in Scotland.

The Banjo Lounge (above) do innovative funky bluegrass and swing mash-up versions of songs to suit all ages from Louis Prima’s ‘Just a Gigolo’, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Dont Stop Til You Get Enough’ to Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and Dizzee Rascal / Calvin Harris’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’. Also thrown in there are a bunch of other classics they have tinkered with to make their own including New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’, a blistering version of Blur’s ‘Song 2’ and Punjabi MC’s Knightrider re-mix of ‘Mundian to Bach Ke’. With a lineup of banjo, guitar, double bass, drums and 3 part harmonies, over the last few years private clients and festival-goers alike have been dancing to their brand new brand of acoustic mash-ups!

The Number 9
The Number 9

Blowing the usual clichéd old-school wedding bands clean out of the water, The Number 9 (right) are a young funked up group with a fresh sound, playing classics with style and new tunes with soul. An energetic and distinctly stylish 5 piece made up of guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals, the band is made up of highly experienced and professional musicians who have each been providing entertainment for the past decade. Jon with his funk and blues vocal complements Nikki with her soulful disco huskiness, providing beautiful harmonies and spine tingling arrangements of classic and new tunes across all genres.

Our Man In Memphis aims to make your special occasion both magical and memorable with exciting sets packed full with your all-time favourite classic rock, blues and soul numbers. With the emphasis on catchy riffs and floor-filling, crowd-pleasers, the band’s repertoire ranges from The Stones to Snow Patrol, Lady Gaga to Amy Winehouse, Cream to Cold Play and Queen to The Kings Of Leon. Something to please everyone from foot-tappers to headbangers. From the opening bars, the band will get the joint jumping with electrifying performances of big hits from the Commitments and the Blues Brothers as well as featuring show-stopping spots by our stunning female vocalist.

Petra and the PT Cruisers are a rockabilly/rock and roll band with a huge repertoire of popular classics and lesser known gems. The majority of songs are original 50’s rockabilly or rock and roll numbers such as – Jailhouse Rock, Long Tall Sally, Hound Dog, Roll Over Beethoven, Blue Moon of Kentucky, Jump The Broomstick etc. They also incorporate songs by lesser known artists such as Janis Martin (Drugstore Rock, My Boy Elvis), Muddy Waters (I Just Wanna Make Love to you) for the die hard 50s fans. As well as these classics songs they incorporate some modern rockabilly songs from Imelda May and The Stray Cats. Although these are not original 50’s songs, they are very much rock and roll/rockabilly tunes and will not fail to get you up on the dance-floor in your best swing skirt!
