Live wedding bands are one thing but for lower key weddings or for afternoon drinks receptions, you can’t beat live classical music acts for weddings, here’s a few of our acts for hire in Wales.

Established in 2002 by 4 professional musicians, the Cambria String Quartet has gained wide experience in performing at corporate events, functions, concerts and weddings and other events. The repertoire has many different styles including classical, opera, folk, jazz and any pop/rock music. Their play list is continuously expanding, plus they offer an arrangement service for any special musical requests. Each band member has a wealth of musical experience behind them including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Academy Opera Orchestra, English National Ballet, West Of England Philharmonic, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru, Welsh National Opera and the Jeff Hooper Big Band. Individual players have worked with many artists including Bryn Terfel, Lesley Garret, Charlotte Church, Sian Cothi, Peter Karrie and Ryland Teifi.

The Fiata Trio is a flute, clarinet and cello trio based in Cardiff and is available for weddings/functions and corporate events. Experienced graduates from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the Fiata Trio are able to provide a variety of music to suit your wedding needs. Similar in style to a traditional string quartet, the Trio has a unique and elegant instrument combination which is perfect to add a touch of magic to your special day. The Fiata Trio are able to provide music for the ceremony, reception, outside during wedding photos and at wedding breakfasts for example. The Trio’s repertoire runs from classic wedding favourites such as Pachelbel’s Canon, Bach’s Air on a G String, to jazzier items by Gershwin and lighter classics and they also try and incorporate any requests wherever possible.

Gary Pickard-Jones (above) has been playing guitar since early childhood and was playing with various bands the time her was a teenager. During his early twenties, Gary developed a passion for the sound of the classical guitar after hearing a recording of John Williams and Julian Bream playing together. What struck him most, apart from the beautiful sound of the playing, was the fact that a classical guitarist can bring out the melody, bass and inner harmonies simultaneously to produce wonderfully rich and vibrant music. Gary took to the classical guitar very naturally and soon achieved grade 8 with distinction, whilst forming a guitar duo with his then teacher, Guiseppe Calabro, playing in various cafes and restaurants. He then went on to pass his Associate of Trinity College London performance Diploma and performed in various solo recitals organised by his second teacher, Johnathan Richards. Since obtaining a Bachelor of Music degree in 2006, studying classical guitar under Charles Ramirez and Neil Smith, Gary became a full time performer and guitar teacher.
