A spotlight on the best London based wedding acts for hire

The Gilev Showband
The Gilev Showband

Needless to say, the competition for London wedding bands is pretty fierce and we try to only select the very best for inclusion on the roster. There’s also a wide variety to be found there a lot more than just your ‘standard’ wedding band, whatever that may be. Below is a selection of four very different but also very good acts for your consideration.

If you’re after a superlative act who will put on a full show then look no further than The Gilev Showband (above). This 15 piece fully professional act features some of the country’s finest musicians and singers. Their performance is a high energy display of dynamism unmatched by few other acts and their passion for music knows no bounds, and they’ll have you dancing to every beat.

At the other end of the style scale, if you fancy a vintage wedding act on your big day then check out Gumbo La La (bottom). With a sound located somewhere between the deep south and South London, Gumbo La La play the rootsiest honky-tonk, zydeco, jazz, folk and R&B in the UK. They like nothing better than to play foot-stompin’ tunes that you can dance the Texas polka to. Conjuring up the spirit of the 40s and 50s, Gumbo La a take inspiration from the songs of Ray Charles, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams Sr, Duke Ellington, Big Joe Turner and Clifton Chenier. They take an old sound – harmony vocals, accordion, fiddle, double bass, and acoustic guitar – and make it new.

Elle and the Pocket Belles

Or if you’re after an all girl vocals act to recreate the days of the Andrew Sisters then you might want to consider Elle and the Pocket Belles (right). Soulful and sassy, this quintet simply sizzle on stage with their swinging take on contemporary hit songs and deliver jazz and swing classics in their harmonious and cheeky style. These stylish beauties will appeal your nostalgic side

Alice Thompson

For a more laid back option then we can recommend a classical pianist. Check out Alice Thompson (left). She is a classically trained composer and pianist who has been influenced by composers such as Philip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi and Michael Nyman. She performs a wide repertoire of classical, minimal, contemporary and jazz piano music and is a wonderful choice as an entertainer for weddings, corporates, and any other type of event. Her main musical areas of expertise are the genres above and she is also able to perform many pop/rock covers, specific songs and the repertoire can be agreed by prior arrangement.
