Entertainment is the key to wedding success and nothing does it better than having your wedding music just right. Finding the right unusual but great music can be tricky – the good news is that you have plenty of talent to choose from across the UK. Here are some of our favourite unusual acts to perform at your wedding!
Lily Taylor-Ward
Cabaret performance will add a lot of entertainment to your wedding. Lily Taylor-Ward (main pic) performs across the UK and she’d be a star performer in a themed wedding. The cabaret-style, soprano voice crossover would fit weddings with a vintage theme, a classic movie theme, or a modern, bohemian style theme. The act is fun to watch and your wedding guests would love to the unique sound of Lily. Her repertoire includes everything from jazz music to classic film hits.
The SOS Secret Opera Singers
Singing waiters are an unusual act that will catch your wedding guests off guard. The Glaswegian band won’t just perform songs and dances, they’ll also act as the chefs and waitresses – your guests
will be pleasantly surprised! This is a fun addition to all sorts of weddings and your wedding doesn’t necessarily need a special theme for dancing waiters to work well. It is a fun act so you don’t want it if you’re trying to achieve a very serious feel with your big day. The music can be a mix of pop, swing, musical theatre and opera and The SOS Secret Opera Singers (right) will incorporate special requests.
Josh Doughty
You might be aware of harp music at weddings but you can add a bigger twist to this classical style by hiring a harpist who plays the West African harp.
Kora, which is a 12-string harp, has a unique style that adds a lovely sound to your wedding music. Josh Doughty (left) is placed in Bristol and London but he can travel around the whole of the UK. West African harp sounds are soft and they suit an open-air or elegant wedding. While it’s great as just background music, the sounds will be lovely to listen to and Josh’s performance is captivating.
Xotic Steel Rhythms
If your wedding has a beach theme and you’re looking for a super-relaxed vibe, you should consider hiring a calypso style band. Xotic Steel Rhythms (below right) is a steel band with a flexible composition. The music is played with steel pans so it has a unique sound to it. This particular style of music would
be great for a relaxed, outdoor wedding. It adds a funky, exotic vibe to your big event and your guests are guaranteed to want to dance the night away!
AJ
For an intimate and small wedding, a single performer can add a lot more flair and intimacy to the wedding. AJ (below) is a solo guitar act and he is a great pick for a relaxed vibe. AJ performs around Scotland and he’s an experienced wedding act. You can expect all sorts of guitar classics from the likes of Van Morrison and Sting. AJ’s music is perfect for creating a cosy atmosphere at the wedding and allowing guests to dance or to simply listen to the beautiful songs.
