The north west of England is a serious hot-bed of not only your standard wedding acts but there’s a surprising amount of bands and acts that may not fit that description but still play a lot of weddings. This suggests the clientele are perhaps not as conservative as some. Supply and demand and all that. That said the wedding band genre is well covered here too. Below are some of the finest we have on offer in the area.
The Hot Jazz biscuits, are a female fronted 7 piece act that don’t just do jazz. their repertoire also includes soul, motown, disco and current pop hits.
The Recollection are a high-end rockier style wedding act for those clients who prefer their music edgy. If you want Rock the Casbah played on your big day, look no further.
For the aforementioned off the wall acts I give you the increasingly popular Riviera (above) who’ll do you a laid back intro to get the guests settled and then unleash a gypsy busking set of 1930’s style pop hits. It works, they have many happy customers. Also, you may want to check out their other band, the Slowshow.
My favourite wedding act of late has to be the band in Manchester, (where else?) who were asked to learn an entire set of Smiths songs for a friend’s reception. It took them three months to learn a set’s worth but they did it. I spoke to one of them about this recently and speculated that playing such songs as “Heaven knows I’m miserable now” and “There is a light that never goes out” at a couples happy day might be a bit of a downer. “Not really,” he told me, “we played both of them and they went mental.” Shows what I know. I didn’t ask what the first dance was although ‘Panic’ would’ve been a laugh.
