Some recent additions to the Freak Music roster

Swing Soup
Swing Soup

It’s been another stellar month in the recruitment department at Freak towers, there’s still a lot of acts out there who want to work with us and are seeking us out so the word of mouth is still going strong which would indicate we are doing something right. What we’ve noticed recently is that the variety of acts coming along is pretty gratifying as we’ve always taken pride in the broad church approach to our recruiting policy. Below is a totally non-scientific assortment of recent sign ups.

Swing Soup (above) is a fully professional Newcastle based jazz and swing band. They’re fronted by a female vocalist whose character perfectly mirrors the glamour of the 1940s and 50s. The bands saxophonist and male vocalist possesses a virtuosity on sax that knows no bounds and a voice that can deliver rat pack material and standards with effortless ease. The back line of guitar, bass, keyboards and drums also provide texture and subtle sounds when required. The act’s repertoire covers all bases and more taking in such class acts as Irving Berlin and George Gershwin among others.

The curiously named Buktop* (above right) is a solo Balkan music performer who sings and plays Greek bouzouki and baglamas. Using backing tracks, he is able to perform Greek and Balkan music to a high standard for a background instrumental set or for a full on party.

Moises Silva (below) is a classical guitarist based in London but hailing from Porto in Portugal. His vast repertoire includes but is not restricted to Latin, Jazz, Brazilian and some more modern pop arranged for the guitar.

Moises  has extensive experience as guitar performer, playing as a soloist and with other musicians including singers, flautists, violinists and guitarists, electric Guitar Performer, performed with several bands approaching various musical genres and he will also be happy to take requests for bespoke arrangements.

The Funkside Soul Band (below) are a 6 piece act from Halifax whose repertoire covers the classics of the genre from James Brown, Aretha, Sly and many more. Not wishing to restrict themselves to the old school they also sling in a few more modern acts such as Gnarls Barkley and Daft Punk too.

The band go out as a fully brassed up 6 piece and can reduce to a 4 without the sax and trumpet and have the rare ability and stamina to be able to perform for two and a half hours without a break, which is quite a feat.
