Calling all songwriters!

ISC 2013

For the second year running, Freak Music are delighted to be an industry partner to the International Songwriting Competition. The ISC organise an annual song contest with the mission to provide opportunities for both aspiring and established songwriters to have songs heard in a professional, international arena.

The idea is to nurture the musical talent of songwriters on all levels and promote excellence in the much-maligned art of songwriting. Amateur and professional songwriters and musicians, as well as those and those caught between those two stools, and are invited to participate. Last year they had the most prestigious panel of judges of all the songwriting and music contests in the world, (including the likes of Tom Waits, Robert Smith and NAS among others) offering exposure and the opportunity to have your songs heard by the most influential decision-makers in the music industry and the 2013 judges will be announced soon.

Obviously all the info is on the site, but to condense the info, 68 winners will share in the cash and prizes. In addition to this, winners benefit from a multilateral promotional campaign designed to give international exposure and attention to their songwriting achievements.

Depending on the category, submissions are judged on the following criteria:

• Creativity

• Originality

• Lyrics (excludes songs that do not have lyrics obviously)

• Melody

• Arrangement

• Overall like-ability

Naturally it costs, but not much. It starts at $30 and there’s discounted rates for multiple entries, all info can be found here.
