The band is based in Glasgow and has played predominantly in the city, however the band is currently in discussions with various Jazz Festivals including Edinburgh, Arran and Aberdeen.
The Groove Merchant Jazz Orchestra is a top end big band made up of some of the strongest young jazz musicians on the Glasgow scene. The band has performed at the Glasgow Jazz Festival, at Drygate, has music on Spotify and was featured as the house band on BBC Radio Scotland's Jazz House Christmas special, in which they played along with Pat Kane of Hue and Cry.
The band is well rehearsed, with excellent players and outstanding soloists, and has a varied repertoire including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jr, Michael Buble, Buddy Rich, Count Basie and Benny Goodman, among others. The EP that the band recently recorded includes one piece featuring their female vocalist, Seonaid Aitken of Rose Room and two pieces featuring Stephen Duffy - one of, if not the, top male vocalist in Scotland, and also the presenter for the BBC Jazz House.
